Oooh, baby, baby!

When browsing through my electronically available pictures I realized that my DIY virus broke out again only four years ago. I always crafted things (you know, in the early days when there were dinosaurs and I was little, it was called crafting, not DIY). I remember my macramee phase at the end of the seventies, excessively used dipping laquer (I suppose my mother is still cursing these dustcatchers), spice wreaths (dustcatcher no. two), fabric painting, Fimo-clay jewellery and of course knitted jumpers in all shapes and colors. But my creativity stayed unattended for quite a while - life's got in the way, I guess. But another reason might have been that I tested different techniques but the resulting projects didn't match my style of living. Even when macramee is hyped hysterically right now I won't be making a wall tapestry for me - period.

But what I liked and like the most is crafting for babies and kids. During the course of decades this must add to some remarkable pile, and it would be interesting to have pictures. Although this is wishful thinking, I managed to unearth one treasure or the other. Let's start with a classic - the baby hat. The last example was meant for daddy and his two sons - it's always a good thing not to take oneself too seriously *lol*

I made quite a few baby blankies and in my denim and crochet posts you could see some of them. The rest will be presented in a separate quilt post but only after November 1st, when I had presented my latest baby to its new owner. Therefore I beg for your patience…

Apart from that it's a fact that woman simply cannot have too many shoes, and thus I crocheted some cute little Mary Janes (instead of little Chucks which I crocheted also, but without picture, unfortunately).

For a dear colleague's little girl I made a set of patchwork balls, a nappy pouch, booties and a circle jacket (meaning: I crocheted a large circle with two slots to insert the sleeves).

For one of the neighbors' girls I connected a knitted and stitched top with an old blouse to form a dress - upcycling at its best.

Various gym bags - finished in under and hour and very versatile.

With all the stuffies I made I could fill a whole zoo - elephants, doggies, kitties and a pretty cute dino.

Because my youngest godchild loves to cook together with his daddy, I sewed a chef set for him consisting of apron, potholders and oven mitts.

When the food is inserted into the little brother, such a thing might come in handy:

And when the stuff leaves the little one, this might be practical: A changing mat to go. I quilted a terry cloth towel onto a soft batting and a nice print fabric and added some buttons to stay in place when folded. It can be stowed away in a small pouch with extra space for one or two nappies, some wipes and cream:

To close this post I want to show you something cute and funny: crackling stars. Very thin and lightweight, so the little ones can grab and hold on to them very easily. Vibrant colors and lots of ribbons to fumble and play with. And inside I added an oven bag! Yes, you read correctly. Normally you take that thing for your Sunday roast but as the material makes these funny cracklings sounds I inserted it between the two layers of fabric (with double seam, of course, to prevent any fraying). Cute, aren't they?
